FAQ Ownership

How many people own the boat?
You will be the sole owner of the boat and have all the benefits of ownership without all the costs.

How much do I get paid?
This depends on the boat size. However, our Owner-Member programme is designed so that you will receive a guaranteed monthly income of up to 80% of the monthly mortgage payments, making your net costs per month almost nil.

How long will SailTime keep my boat?
SailTime will professionally manage your boat and take care of all costs for 5 years while you enjoy sailing. The only exception is from Years 4 and 5 onwards when there will be a shared cost towards any major renewals such as new sails. This is on the basis that you are adding future value.

SailTime

What happens if the boat is damaged and out of commission?
SailTime will take care of it. In the event that your yacht is unusable, your SailTime Base will charter in a replacement after a short qualifying period until your yacht is repaired.

What happens if the boat breaks down?
SailTime bases provide 3rd party 24 hour emergency mechanical breakdown cover while at sea and in port. This is all part of our service to give you carefree sailing.

If I joined as a SailTime Owner-Member and you were to go out of business, where would that leave me?
As an Owner-Member you are the sole owner of your boats title and, therefore, would not lose any ownership rights due to the closure of the base. You would be offered an alternative base location to continue within the SailTime programme. Furthermore, SailTime would be actively looking to reappoint a new Base Owner at your location, but in the interim may well choose to run the base themselves. Obviously, as sole owner you would be entitled to remove or sell your yacht on.

Can I see the contract?
Yes. Click here to find and contact your local SailTime base.

What are the specifications of my boat?
The SailTime fleet consists primarily of Beneteau Oceanis Clippers and Sealine Powerboats. Each are exceptionally well equipped and highly specified. These boats are the perfect blend of comfort, ease of handling and good performance.

Do I get special scheduling privileges?
Similar to a Member, you are guaranteed a minimum of 7 sail times per month plus unlimited ‘as available’ use. This is usually rather more than anyone sails on average. Our flexible proprietary Scheduler software allows you to book up to an entire week in advance so that as far as possible you have full and convenient access to suit your needs and lifestyle.

Can I meet the Members using my boat?
Each SailTime base holds periodic social gatherings and Member events, encouraging a community spirit, during which all Members can regularly meet each other.

How can I be sure my boat will be treated properly?
SailTime maintains an exclusive Membership of only 7 others on your boat. Additionally, each SailTime Member must sign a ‘Duty of Care’ document, which ensures that they treat the boat as if it were their own. This minimizes the number of people using your boat and ensures that each Member is familiar with your boat’s operation. If a Member has not yet obtained the minimum requirement to sail your yacht of the RYA Day Skipper Tidal qualification, then he/she must have someone on board with them at all times who has this minimum qualification.

What is my equity position at the end of the SailTime commitment and what are my options?
The 20% deposit, together with your capital repayments largely funded by SailTime, helps ensure that you stay ahead of the depreciation curve and maintain positive equity. At the end of the 5 year commitment, you may take the boat for your personal use, refinance it to lower the payments, upgrade to a new boat and re-enter into the programme, or sell your boat and get back any positive equity. All these options leave you with an inexpensive and quality SailTime experience.

How do I get started?
Contact SailTime for detailed specifications and additional options together with financing information. The boat will be specified and ordered by SailTime, who will see the process through to the commissioning and delivery to your local SailTime Base. SailTime will guide you through the financing process and take care of everything on your behalf. While waiting for the delivery of your boat, the local SailTime base may provide complimentary membership, subject to availability.
