YOUR SOLUTION
Participation in SailTime’s Owner-Member programme is in high demand and is limited to just a few boats each year per base location. If you are interested in becoming an Owner-Member then you should contact the base location you are interested in and start discussing the next steps. Our Owner-Members that become Members first are the ones that get first access to the Owner-Member programme, so do not delay in determining where the waiting list stands with the base you are interested in.
Our boats are all brand new Beneteau Oceanis yachts or Sealine Powerboats in the mid-size range. Boats must be ordered through SailTime to ensure that everything is set up properly for the programme. SailTime is able to obtain favorable rates on your behalf from major marine mortgage financing companies and boats typically require a minimum 20% deposit. SailTime pay for all the running costs for the duration of the contract. The only exception is that from Years 4 and 5 onwards SailTime will look to the Owner-Member for any shared cost for major renewals, such as new sails, on the basis that future value is being added.
The contract between SailTime and an Owner-Member is set up as a 3-year contract, extendable to 5 years with the agreement of both parties. Alternatively, if the Owner-Member prefers, the contract can be set up for 5 years from Day One. The contract allows the Owner-Member to withdraw the boat from the SailTime programme with 9 months notice at any time.
Boat ownership may be able to provide you substantial tax benefits. As from 6 th April 2006 you will be allowed to hold ‘alternative’ investments such as a boat in your SIPPS (Self Invested Personal Pension). This could yield significant tax relief benefits dependent on your tax situation, but the rules are complicated and specialist financial advice should be taken from an independent financial advisor. SailTime does not offer tax advice.
At the end of the term of the agreement you may decide to keep, sell, or trade-in your boat for a new one and continue in the programme.
SailTime Owner-Members enjoy the pride of boat ownership without any of the worries that are associated with it.
